Why go
Textiles, babouches, lanterns, leather and souvenirs line this covered street, which splits into the specialised souks further north. It is the busiest and most tourist-facing part of the market.
Use it as your spine: wander off to the left and right, then come back to it to find your way out.
Tips
- Mornings are calmer; the souks wake up around 10am.
- Prices here start high: compare a few stalls before you bargain.
- Photo tip: Light falling through the slatted roof onto the crowd, around midday.
