Why go
The entrance is a modest door on Rue Mouassine: easy to miss in the flow of the souk.
Hidden behind the walls of a 19th-century palace, the gardens were restored and opened in 2016. One is laid out as a classic four-part Islamic garden fed by the old khettara water system; the other is planted with species from around the world.
It is the calmest hour you can spend in the souks. Climb the tower for a view over the rooftops to the Atlas.
Tips
- The tower costs 40 MAD extra and is worth it on a clear day.
- The café in the garden is a good break between Ben Youssef and Mouassine.
- Photo tip: The four-part Islamic garden from the tower, with the Koutoubia minaret on the horizon.
