Why go

It sits beside the busy Mouassine route but behind a plain wall, and many visitors take it for a private house.

Built for Thami El Glaoui, the powerful pasha who received Churchill and Hollywood stars, the palace is a showcase of early 20th-century craftsmanship: carved plaster, painted cedar and a garden courtyard of orange trees.

It now hosts exhibitions on the cultures that met in Morocco. Bacha Coffee, in the former reception rooms, is a destination of its own; expect a queue.

Tips

  • Closed on Mondays; free for Moroccans and residents on Fridays.
  • For Bacha Coffee, come at opening or late afternoon to avoid the queue.
