Marrakech is split into distinct neighbourhoods, and the one you choose changes the trip more than the hotel does. Here is what each one is really like.
Medina Best for a first visit
10 min on foot to Jemaa el-Fna
The UNESCO-listed old city: a maze of alleys, workshops, palaces and riads hidden behind plain doors. Jemaa el-Fna, the souks, the Bahia Palace and the Saadian Tombs are all a walk away, so you rarely need a taxi. For a first trip, nothing beats waking up inside it.
- You get
- Riads with courtyards and rooftop terraces, and the whole city on foot.
- You trade
- Busy, noisy streets, a day or two to find your way, and no cars to your door.
