Why go
There are no dunes here, but a vast rolling plateau of rock and sparse scrub that turns gold at sunset. Desert camps offer lunch, quad and camel rides and dinner shows, and some have pools for a day visit.
It is the easiest taste of the desert from Marrakech, without the 8-hour drive to the Sahara.
Tips
- Book a half day with transfer: there is no public transport.
- Bring a layer: evenings are cold from November to March.
- Photo tip: The camp tents against the hills and the Atlas, in the last half hour before sunset.
