Why go
The Almohads built the great basin to irrigate the olive groves around it; the green-roofed pavilion was added in the 19th century. On a clear winter or spring day, with snow on the peaks reflected in the water, the view is extraordinary.
Beyond that view, it is a city park where families picnic. Come for the light, not for a long visit.
Tips
- Go on a clear day between December and April for snow on the Atlas.
- A taxi from the Medina takes about 10 minutes.
- Photo tip: The pavilion and its reflection from the north edge of the pool, late afternoon, mountains behind.
Practical
Menara, Hivernage, Marrakech
Free — Gardens free; small fee for the pavilion.
